Native American Authors Featured at Multicultural Children’s Book Day


This year’s Multicultural Children’s Book Day, which celebrates diversity in children’s books, takes place on Friday, January 25.

With the goal of celebrating diversity in children’s literature and getting more diverse books to American schools and classrooms, Multicultural Children’s Book Day was established five years ago as an initiative non-profit.

The percentage of miscellaneous books in schools and classrooms is estimated at only 10%, but is changing dramatically, thanks to Valarie Budayr’s efforts to Jump in a book and Mia Wenjen from Pragmatic Mom , the co-founders of this company. Celebrated annually in January, this non-profit initiative has taken giant strides as a global event.

In 2018, he was second on Twitter and recorded 3.2 billion impressions on social media. This year’s event will take place on January 25. Becky Flansburg of is the project manager for this year’s event.

Several American Indian authors are part of this global event. Boston-based Bharat Babies is a Gold Sponsor of MCBD 2019. Bharat Babies, founded by Sailaja Joshi, aims to fill the void with hardback and picture books that tell stories of Indian heritage for young children.

Kitaab World, a South Asian publishing house and online bookstore of children’s books, is a Bronze Sponsor of MCBD 2019. Indian American writers participating in this event are Chitra Soundar, Milind Makwana, Anita Badhwar , Padma Venkatraman and Shoumi Sen.

To date, the MCBD has put more than 5,000 free miscellaneous books for children and adolescents into the hands of readers, parents, educators and librarians.
